This years (2018) CPCC Pipe show in Chicago was the „Pipe Makes Portrait Show“ for me. I tried to contact as many famous pipe makers as possible and use the two days of the show to get portraits from the stars. I had to travel with light equipment so my setup was quite simple. Two of camera system flashes from Canon. A Sony A7III (ILCE-7RM3) and a FE 85mm F1.8 lens. Sure I had two other lenses with me but for the portraits I exclusively used the 85mm. One of the helping hands of the hotel gave me a 3 by 3 meter black cloth for my background and fixed it to the wall of the exhibition hall. The portraits should all be with a favourite pipe in hand or mouth and the look should be somehow like on a movie poster. I’ll do the fun stuff (typo and logos) later. I was more than happy to see that the pipe makes are not of the shy type and they hopefully enjoyed the shoot! I had about 10minutes for one person….. not much but enough if you know what you want! So here are some examples. The portraits will be used for a calendar of 2019.
